The secret acne cure
Once you get your acne either under control or cured, you may start to think about improving old acne scarring and dips. Collagen injection, a normal substance of the body, is injected under the skin to "stretch" and "fill out" certain types of superficial and deep soft scars. Collagen treatment usually does not work as well for ice-pick scars and keloids. Collagen derived from cows or other non-human sources cannot be used in people with autoimmune diseases. Human collagen or fascia is helpful for those allergic to cow-derived collagen. Cosmetic benefit from collagen injection usually lasts 3 to 6 months. There is a danger of an allergic reaction so proceed with caution Additional collagen injections to maintain the cosmetic benefit are done at additional cost. You need to consider this very carefully before you choose this option. It is not permanent solution and you would need to have this treatment again and again if it is going to remain effective. Dermabrasion. This is thought to be the most effective treatment for acne scars. Under local anesthetic, a high-speed brush is used to remove surface skin and alter the contour of scars. Superficial scars may be removed altogether, and deeper scars may be reduced in depth. Dermabrasion does not work for all kinds of scars; for example, it may make ice-pick scars more noticeable if the scars are wider under the skin than at the surface. In darker-skinned people, dermabrasion may cause changes in pigmentation that require additional treatment as this will cause additional problems for the person to have to deal with. Microdermabrasion. This new technique is a surface form of dermabrasion. Rather than a high-speed brush, aluminum oxide crystals passing through a vacuum tube to remove surface skin, not unlike how a builder would pebble dash a wall! Only the very surface cells of the skin are removed, so no additional wound is created. Multiple procedures are often required but scars may not be significantly improved buy this and you will be left with a bright red face for a few days, so think before you try. Laser Treatment. Lasers of various wavelength and intensity may be used to recon tour scar tissue and reduce the redness of skin around healed acne lesions. The type of laser used is determined by the results that the laser treatment aims to accomplish. Tissue may actually be removed with more powerful instruments such as the carbon dioxide laser. In some cases, a single treatment is all that will be necessary to achieve permanent results. Because the skin absorbs powerful bursts of energy from the laser, there may be post-treatment redness for several months. Chemical Peels If you are considering a chemical peel, I would recommend that you see a dermatologist or plastic surgeon rather than trying the beauty clinic round the corner. Chemical peels are used to improve wrinkles, uneven skin pigment as well as improve acne scarring. Here is some information of the different types of peels available. Alphahydroxy acids (AHAs), such as glycolic, lactic, or fruit acids are the mildest of the peel formulas and produce light peels. These types of peels can provide smoother, brighter-looking skin for people who can't spare the time to recover from a phenol or TCA peel. AHA peels may be used to treat fine wrinkling, areas of dryness, uneven pigmentation acne scarring and acne. Various concentrations of an AHA may be applied weekly or at longer intervals to obtain the best result. Your doctor will make this decision during your consultation and as the treatment proceeds. An alphahydroxy acid, such as glycolic acid, can also be mixed with a facial wash or cream in lesser concentrations as part of a daily skin-care regimen to improve the skin's texture. Gentle and not too risky. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) can be used in different concentrations, but it is most commonly used for medium-depth peeling. Fine surface wrinkles, superficial blemishes and pigment problems are commonly treated with TCA. The results of TCA peel are usually less dramatic than and not as long-lasting as those of a phenol peel. In fact, more than one TCA peel may be needed to achieve the desired result. The recovery from a TCA peel is usually shorter than with a phenol peel. Phenol is the strongest of the chemical solutions and produces a deep peel. It is used mainly to treat patients with coarse facial wrinkles, areas of blotchy or damaged skin caused by sun exposure, or pre-cancerous growths. Since phenol sometimes lightens the treated areas, your skin pigmentation may be a determining factor as to whether or not this is an appropriate treatment for you. Phenol is primarily used on the face; scarring may result if it's applied to the neck or other body areas. All chemical peels carry some uncertainty and risk. Chemical peel is normally a safe procedure when it is performed by a qualified, experienced plastic surgeon. However, some unpredictability and risks such as infection and scarring, while infrequent, are possible so be extremely careful as your face is not something you want to feel you have to hide from the world, and if you did, it's not an easy thing to hide, is it? Remember, once your acne is under control or cured completely the sun and time will naturally help to fad and improve any scarring-so you may want to give it some time before rushing out and exposing yourself to expensive and even potentially dangerous procedures.
